Española Way

The Historic Hidden Gem

Maybe you think you’ve seen and done it all in Miami Beach (trust us, you haven’t). Besides Española Way – a historic block north of 14th Street between Washington and Pennsylvania Avenues – is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered.

The playground of 1920’s high society was transformed into gangster Al Capone’s den of iniquity before going to seed in the 1970’s and being revived in the 1980’s, thanks to a couple of prescient real estate developers who had a little help from the TV show Miami Vice. Today, you’ll find everything from vendors hawking flowers and handmade jewelry and clothing to thriving sidewalk cafés, open-air markets, art galleries and marvelous European-inspired architecture. When it comes to the cuisine, you’ll sample a little bit of everything, from Cuban, Mexican and Spanish to French and Italian.
